Ring size conversion guide
A ring size is a label within a sizing system. A measurement in centimeters or inches is a physical length. Before converting either one, identify whether you have a known size, an inside diameter, or a circumference.
Convert a known ring size
US and Canada use numbered sizes; UK and Australia use letters. EU labels commonly relate to inside circumference in millimeters. India and Japan have numbered conventions of their own, and matching numbers do not mean matching rings.
Choose the source system in the international ring size converter, then select your size. It uses the source’s diameter and finds the nearest supported entry in each other system. US half sizes and supported UK half-letter sizes are included. These are reference conversions, not promises about every brand.
Convert ring measurements from cm or inches
If you measured around your finger, enter that full length in the circumference-to-ring-size calculator. Select cm or inches before interpreting the result. Changing units converts the current input’s physical value.
- Centimeters to millimeters: multiply by 10.
- Inches to millimeters: multiply by 25.4.
- Circumference to diameter: divide the millimeter circumference by π.
- Diameter to circumference: multiply the millimeter diameter by π.
A measurement of 5.2 cm around a finger means 52 mm of circumference, not a diameter of 52 mm. If you measured straight across a ring’s opening, use the inner-diameter ring size calculator instead. Its input accepts millimeters.
A worked conversion example
In our shared reference, US 6 has an inner diameter of 16.50 mm. Multiplying by π gives approximately 51.84 mm of circumference: 5.184 cm or 2.0408 inches. The nearest supported UK equivalent is L and the EU equivalent is 52.
Displayed values are rounded for readability. The calculator retains precision internally. This example explains the calculation; it does not establish which size will fit your finger.
Why conversion charts disagree
Published references round measurements differently, and systems do not advance in identical steps. This site names its conventions: GIA for US/UK diameters, BlueStone for India, and 4°C for Japan. EU entries are integer circumferences. Check the sizing sources and rounding rules for supported ranges and limitations.
The ring size conversion chart displays the same dataset as the calculator and printables. Compare your seller’s chart before buying. Wider bands, knuckles, ring shape, and personal comfort can change the fit even when labels agree.
